Course objectives | The learning goals of this integrated Course include the knowledge of exogenous and endogenous causes of diseases and of the mechanisms of disease, biological defense, reaction to cell and tissue damage, tissue responses, regeneration and repair, together with their principal alterations, with attention also to cell transformation and neoplasia. The course’s aim is allow the students to learn about those aspects of cell pathology and of the alterations of the integrated functions of tissues, organs and systems, which may turn useful to them in the medical setting. Moreover, the Course will also focus on the contribution of genetic factors to disease pathogenesis. Acquiring such knowledge and expertise will allow the students to address complex professional issues with a critical attitude and with the ability to obtain and interpret autonomously relevant scientific information. |
Prerequisites | In order to attend the course proficiently, the students will need to have a well-established background in Cell and Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy and Histology, Physiology, Immunology and Immunopathology, as specifically indicated by The Council of the Medicine and Surgery School. |
Teaching methods | Teaching techniques: Lectures supported by presentation of slides in Power Point. |
Evaluation methods | The Oral Examination will be done by 3 Professors, two Professors of General Pathology and Pathophysiology and one Professor of Medical genetics. The final score will represents the mean of the score obtained by each Professor. The oral examination will be focused on three independent questions: the first in General Pathology, the second in Pathophysiology, the third in Medical Genetics. The examination will be passed only when the passed-grade will be achieved with all the Professors. |
